“Percy Jackson and the Olympians” Season 2 has added Timothy Simons to its cast, Variety has learned exclusively.
Simons will appear in recurring guest star role in the Disney+ adaptation of the Rick Riordan book series, playing the role of Tantalus.
The character is described as “sardonic, manipulative, openly hostile, and rarely in a good mood… seeing as he is cursed with eternal hunger and thirst, but can never eat or drink. Tantalus has been released from imprisonment in the Underworld to become the interim Activities Director at Camp Half-Blood, having replaced Chiron (Glynn Turman) who is under suspicion of having ties to Kronos.”

Simons is best known for his role as Jonah Ryan in the award-winning HBO comedy “Veep,” on which he appeared for all of its seven seasons. His other TV credits include “Candy” and “Looking for Alaska” at Hulu, and “Station Eleven” at Max. He will next be seen in the Netflix series “Nobody Wants This,” which premieres in September. He has also been in films like “Don’t Worry Darling,” “The Interview,” “Christine,” and “Inherent Vice.”
He is repped by UTA and Myman Greenspan.
The official description for Season 2 states, “Percy Jackson returns to Camp Half-Blood one year later to find his world turned upside down. His friendship with Annabeth is changing, he learns he has a cyclops for a brother, Grover has gone missing, and camp is under siege from the forces of Kronos. Percy’s journey to set things right will take him off the map and into the deadly Sea of Monsters, where a secret fate awaits the son of Poseidon.”
The Disney Branded Television show was developed by Riordan and Jon Steinberg with James Bobin directing the pilot. Steinberg and his producing partner Dan Shotz are overseeing the series as showrunners and serve as executive producers alongside Bobin, Rick Riordan, Rebecca Riordan, Bert Salke, Monica Owusu-Breen, Jim Rowe, Anders Engström, Jet Wilkinson, and Gotham Group’s Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Jeremy Bell, and D.J. Goldberg. 20th Television is the studio. Salke was formerly the president of Touchstone Television, and originally put the show into development.
